Baldur's Gate revival?

Baldur's Gate have been considered among the top video games of all time. Made by BioWare around 1998.

Looks like the original developer, Trent Oster (formerly BioWare) is doing something again. Very little info available at this time though. A topic was started in the BioWare BG forum though.

One of my all time favorite games but then again I have been reading Forgotten Realms since the first books were released so Love the universe.

I don't know, but this is what's being posted by others on the BioWare forum, including one moderator. Several suggested that BG will be redone in a HD version. Others suggest that it just might be a port to the iPad or other tablets, which sounds more feasible.

Someone did contact Trent Osler and he said, “Hopefully all will be made clear shortly.”

BioWare is unlikely to have anything to do with the domain, as the Forgotten Realms/D&D rights are owned by businesses other than EA.

1) This is being handled by Beamdog. That means that at best, this is a port.

2) Bioware does not have a license to do any more D&D work. They don't even own any of the characters or any IP outside of the actual engine used to create Baldur's Gate. The game name is a registered trademark of Wizards of the Coast. I think the only thing EA is allowed to do is port the existing game to other platforms, like what they've done previously.

3) I find it hard to believe people in this day and age still think Faerun, D&D, etc, are owned or controlled by Bioware. Bioware can't make any kind of Baldur's Gate sequel without getting a license--that's why they created Dragon Age, they simply don't own that property and want to own their own IP.

Previously, Beamdog has worked with companies such as Interplay to develop HD mobile ports. Whether or not that's the secret Baldur's Gate project is still unknown. Beamdog did confirm, however, that it is not related to the new Steam release of Baldur's Gate 2, saying: "We're not related to the Steam complete edition, I can tell you that much. Other than that, we're hoping to announce something soon."

back in ps2 era i rented dark allaince and i liked it. dark alliance 2 comes and i was disapointed like it was a whole different game. i dont know what is. it just feel like it. but it is not a suprise since i learned that it was developed by different company than dark alliance 1.

Doesn't Atari have some sort of publishing deal with WOTC?

Ahh TSR...the good old days.

That being said, if they ported it for iPad, I'd be all over it.
