There are a few different ports of Privateer available on the internet. Some even have updated graphics.

Yes. One of the things that GoG does is wrap the games in emulators as necessary so they will run without issue on modern operating systems.

hmm never really got into Wing Commander as a kid.

I was always more of an X-Wing fanatic myself.

I remember buying WC3 with a Gravis joystick and having to calibrate that POS constantly.

And then 10 years ago, WC1 came out for free on a PC Gamer disc, and it was fantastic. Introduced me to Monkey Island, Alone in the Dark, and a few other classic series.

I'm playing WC1 right now with a XBOX 360 controller. I got it to work since DOSBOX comes with a key remapper. Now I got the urge to reinstall Strike Commander! Stupid Lucas Arts better remake the entire XWing & Tie fighter series or better yet make it a game that starts from Star Wars I but minus all the annoying characters.

If I have Jedi Powers, I would force choke the crap out of JarJar!

I really liked that game then my pc was stoen with that game and also tiefighter which was another favorite game of miner. back when they first came out with the Pentium chips, which I couldn't afford I had an 486 wjhich was a massive improvement over my Commodore 64 lol
free space is simualr to tie fighter and privateer.
