Don't ask me why though, I have no clue. I paid tax on my BF3 pre-order, but I still came out ahead. Direct2Drive has it for $54ish and comes with the Karkand pack.

I think I'll just get it from D2D then. Seeing as the Physical Warfare Pack is just EARLY unlocks, I'll probably unlock that stuff on the first day anyways.

I checked into this today. Origin charges taxes on digital downloads everywhere in Canada. So see ya later EA, I'll buy it from D2D for less and no tax, and skip your dodgy tax collection scam TYVM.

Hopefully it is not a sign of things to come. Though maybe they are the only ones required to charge tax because they have operations in Canada.

I think it might be due to how Origin is both a digital store and physical store. Because of the latter they need to have operations in Canada, or you would incur tariffs on shipping physical games.

Gamersgate seems like the best place to preorder without tax, since they give you back 5% in store points.

You can also sign up for the EA Gun club, they may mail you a 25% off code which won't work. But there is a chance a live chat rep will give you a working 20% or 25% off code for Origin. You also have a chance of getting a free copy of ME2, DS2, or MoH for preordering (some people did).

I found some D2D 20% off codes actually though, but I'm not sure if they've been used by now or expired, if anyone wants they can try these (I got it at D2D for $43.16, no tax, on Sunday) -

This is interesting stuff, I only had Origin installed 3hrs before I read this....then uninstalled.
