Anyone with the PS3 version here? How do the pc codes work that come with the PS3, can they be linked to anyone's steam account? How would someone go about doing that if they got a pc code from a PS3 owner who doesn't want it.

you gotta link your ps3 account with your steam account, so technically, you still got only 1 copy of the game, you can just play it on two different "machines" now.

So if the guy with the ps3 linked his copy with his own steam account the pc code is useless to me. (?)

Yes, but when I linked my PSN account to my Steam account, I did not enter the serial number provided in the package since PSN was down.
I simply entered the serial number from the card provided with the game into Steam and Steam recognized this and associated Portal 2 with my Steam account.

If you know this person, you might be able to ask them to give you the serial number, try it on Steam and if it works, great, you give him the money, if that's the plan.

Er, what you're both trying to do sounds shady at best.

Software is usually sold to an individual (or his family depending on how the EULA is worded), not multiple people, regardless of the ability to install it multiple times.

This isn't shady, Valve decided to give customers and extra copy of the game to play on Steam.
If said customer, who own that product wishes to give (or sell) that copy to someone and they don't use it them selves, then it's all good.

What about when people trade games in to EB/GS all the time, is that shady?

So shady is your opinion and nothing written, so the OP can do what he wishes since it's not against the TOC from Valve.
