Gamestop buying Stardock's Impulse

GameStop to acquire Impulse from Stardock; acquires Spawn Labs

Not too sure what I think of this, I have never dealt with Gamestop.

Impulse has always been pretty good, I think Steam is better but Impulse was my #2 for digital downloads. My only concern is that Gamestop will screw it up, only time will tell.

a little concerned, I've never overly liked gamestop ever since they became almost entirely console focused in store. On the up side we might start seeing Stardock games on steam now.

This is just Gamestop deciding not to be a footnote to gaming history. Electronic delivery as a business model makes so much more sense. I like Steam, but competition here is a good thing.

I just hope at some point they allow you to mix base game from one service and expansion or dlc from another.

That would truly be an advantage but I don't see it happening. At least not with Steam. Competition is great for us, I've gone to the lowest price source many times, but still the benefits of Steam are hard to beat, except lately I've been thinking how easy it would be for Valve to lock you out of your account and all your legally obtained games. Sure they say they will issue patches to run them offline but seriously, for every single game on Steam? Some games are broke or incompatible with Windows7 as it is. Anyway, i'm just venting and will still shop around for deals. Haven't bought from Impulse yet however.

They wouldn't necessarily need to provide a patch for each game, just a means of making Steam think you are connected to their server.

Correct, but even more likely they would have been sold for an enormous sum of money to someone who would make sure to keep it available for you. Steam is too valuable now to go bust.

They make a game kinda like SINS, but more “epic” and configurable.

not surprised, I'm not a fan of Gamestop/EB games either. Ever since they basically phased PC games out of their stores, and their encouragement of preorder exclusives. Then again everyone seems to do quite a bit of that, but them more than others.
