Teamspeak is free for end users. Lower bandwidth, push to talk, better admin options, Channels and password support, etcetc.

There is a cost to Teamspeak that is paid for by the clan. Usually they'll ask you for a small, voluntary monthly donation to cover the cost of the website, Teamspeak and the server. Our iteration of teamspeak can have up to 34 players at once on a channel, and it's altogether better geared towards combat than Skype would be (I've used Skype on a one-on-one basis to play Civ V with my brother, and it works fine in that situation, but I don't think it would handle larger numbers of people.)

As an aside, BF3 is broken right now :( I've been trying to connect for the past hour. Apparently I'm not the only one...

Thanks. So it is another mmo. After spending so much on the game and it's various other content, monthly fees to enjoy a game leave a very bad taste in my mouth.

Yeah, my friends list was going crazy with people logging in and out earlier lol. When DICE brought out Bad Company 2 I got excited. Then I realized what a pile it was. Thought I'd give em another chance. Lets just say BF4 is not going to be on my must buy list.

Edit: Back in the day (early 2000's) our clan had a free VOIP client darned if I can remember the name. But it was free and the games were great with a modified Unreal game of infiltration. Then came UT. Those were the days.

I liked BC2. I liked it more than BF3.

There are plenty of free TS hosting you can use.. but you do get what you pay for.

Also if you have a server (as a clan) it's VERY easy to set-up your own server and not cost anything.

BC2 was a decent game. For consoles. If I had the time I guess I would invest in Americas Army 2 or something. Maybe I shouldn't expect more/better as time progresses.

So do I. Bought BF3 on release, played a couple of times and went back to BC2

I'm going to have to agree and say BC2 was a funner game. It just held my attention for much longer (330 hours vs 160 hours) and just seemed like a funner game to play than BF3, I can't quite tell what it is. Maybe the fully destructible shacks from BC2? There's was nothing quite like bringing down a house with a few people holding up inside and seeing them pour out as it's collapsing. Not sure. I just found out today though that some community members from BC2 have made it possible to edit the server files and map files for BC2. It will be interesting to see what comes of this. Maybe I'll start playing BC2 again. MordorHQ - Forgotten but not Abandoned, Bad Company 2 returns with Mod Tools.
