LOTRO mmo to go free to play
Seems like Turbine is making their mmo free to play...might be worth trying. Has anyone played it?

LOTRO Goes Free to Play!

It's been my MMO of choice since release, I play maybe 4-6 Hours per week these days with the odd Binge :) . They've done an excellent job with the Book License and it's well worth a try.

I agree, its similar to WoW in its controls and interface. If you come from that background you should slip into it fairly easy. Being free, there is no reason not to try it.

Hmmm... I'm a LOTR junkie (as a matter of fact I'm watching Fellowship of the Ring as I type this) and this could be worth a look-see.
Do they include some of the ancient history of Middle Earth in the story line? (I'm talking about Silmarillion)

they are officially licenced from tolkien estates, so they have access to everything far as i know.

I played LotRO steady for about 2 years. It is much better than WoW, imo, which I subscribed to for a about 4 years. LotRO has an engaging story, non-hostile (i.e. no jerks) community, terrific graphics, great game content, and no lame motorcycle mounts. I stopped however due to lack of time to play. Since it's now free I recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it before.

Arrrrg... guess I'll have to download it and give it a try = I can already feel my life spiral into a bottomless time-eating chasm of LOTR goodness.
I read LOTR books before the movies were made and I love them so if the game offers a decent RPG experience of that world I'm done for.
I'll probably wind up learning how to read/speak elvish or sumthin'... :haha:

we need to start a HWC guild :)

Dar_ell September 4, 2010 04:13 PM

I also agree with the HWC guild, i won't be that active since school is just around the corner. I'll try to squeeze some hours.

Just a heads up:

I downloaded it last night (warning = it's 10 gig so it takes some time) but I can't seem to "create an account" without a purchased passkey.
I glanced at the forums and near as I can tell the "free to play" doesn't start until Sept. 8th. I'll try again after the 8th and see how it goes.
