Default Personal upgrade experience from C2D to i5 750

Hey guys,

Just thought i'd post some news of a small upgrade i made the other day that i was pretty impressed with

I was originally running a e7600 3.06ghz (stock) with my HD5870 and everything was fine and fast but i figured the CPU would be bottlenecking the card, so i took some small benchies to compare

I then upgraded my CPU to an i5 750 with new Mobo and DDR3 RAM etc. and my fps have gone way up in a lot of games

For example Battlefield Bad Company 2 went from getting 50-65 fps to 89-124 fps (i figure this is because BBC2 is such a CPU intensive game)

But also games like Crysis Warhead, Dirt 2 and many more all feel smoother

Just thought i'd post incase anyone was curious about upgrading from a Core 2 Duo to a decent quad

Well thats my 2 cents and im pretty pleased

Cheers guys

What did the upgrade set you back roughly? I've been thinking of stepping up to an i5 myself.

Here's the rough prices i paid for the upgrade

Please keep in mind that you CAN find all these at better prices but i could not be bothered waiting for shipping etc. i'm the kind of person who has to go buy it as soon as i want it

Plus the shop i buy from is right near my house and have great customer support with warranty's etc.

You can probably find better prices online at sites like new egg compared to what i paid but here is what it cost me

Intel core i5 750: $240

GIGABYTE P55A UD3R: $185

Corsair HX750 PSU: $189

Saphire Radeon HD 5870: $490

GIEL 4GB DDR3 1333 RAM: $135

So all up $1239

I bought a HAF 932 and Win7 Pro 64-bit also but i didnt include that in the pricing as that upgrade was just a personal "want" more than a need

Anyways it all runs awesomely even at stock speeds doesnt skip a beat and gr8 fps in all games i play - crysis, warhead, BFBC2, dirt 2, supcom, stalker etc...

All the best

Mike

I've also been looking at a similar upgrade path and just checked some of your numbers. From NCIX, which I hate to admit is my local pc store when I'm at home, one could save at least 80 over the cpu and motherboard alone. This is just for the reference of the requester of information

Yeah that sounds about right

I wish we had a shop with decent prices similar to that of new egg and NCIX

Sucks living in W.A sometimes

Cheers,
Mike

Question

In what resolution you are playing? I'm in decision to upgrade from C2D running on 3.3GHz, to the quad system, but so far it looks like for most games Dual is more then enough especially at resolutions 1680*1050 and higher... anything higher then 60 fps suppose to be not visible... or I missing something?
