Default Bottleneck?

Hi guys,

Just after some suggestions

I have a 5870 so would i see any performance increase going from an e7600 (3.06ghz) to an i5 750 in gaming?

Current setup

GPU: HD5870
CPU: e7600 (3.06ghz stock)
PSU: Corsair HX 750
Mobo: P5QPL-AM (average i know)

Any bottlenecks? i suspect CPU and or motherboard

Cheers,
Mike

Well if it's games like Crysis and BFBC2 then ya your cpu will be bottlenecking you. You don't necessarily need to get an i5 750 since then you'd also need a new motherboard and RAM, so you could just pick up a quad core 775 CPU like the Q9550.

Thanks for the suggestion

Yeah i'm quite ok with buying a new Mobo and RAM was thinking maybe a P55A-UD3R

Was just wondering if my performance gains would be noticeable or if i'd just be upgrading for the sake of me wanting to buy new toys

BC2 loves quad cores. I've seen BC2 run on dual core systems and it would run slow, when they upgrade to comparable quad it would have a huge jump. I don't really understand it myself, because when I look at task manager when I run the game it's not hugely using all 4 cores or anything.

Can't really say the same for the other games, but I'm sure it won't hurt.

Your CPU is fairly old. You don't need to get a new mobo and ram if you want more performance. Although going to Core i5 or AMD Phenom 2 would be the 2 options I would go with because why spend more money on a dead end.

I have a second computer with a 5850 and E8400 and it can play every game at max or near max at 1080P. So your CPU is holding you back.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys

I think i'm gonna go for the i5 750 and new Mobo, might let the 5870 stretch its legs a bit better in some games like you all said

Cheers
