Default Rockstar upload a pirated version of Max Payne 2 to Steam

Irony: Did Rockstar upload a pirated version of Max Payne 2 to Steam?

This is what cheeses me off.

I used get the no-cd cracks for games I owned (before Steam), since it was so much easier for me to enjoy the games I bought (rented, depending on who you asked I guess). I have been criticized for this practice (even on these forums), as being against the rules of the EULA, etc. I do not publicly condone the practice of using software without paying for it, but if the DRM is painful, and there is a method for me to get around it, I will use that method.

But really, there is a major problem with DRM if the developers themselves see the value saving time and aggravation by using cracked versions of their own software.

Haha, that's funny. I'm going to re-download Max Payne 2 when I get home to see if it's there.

Funny. But I find it hard to believe this guy just happened to be perusing the code of the Steam game for nothing more than idle curiosity. Sounds like a setup imo.

I believe it. I admit that I've opened randoms .exe files with text editors out of curiosity before. The number of steam users and that Rockstar sale recently, chances of someone finding it are pretty high.

I downloaded it earlier and opened it with a text editor and it seems they patched it out. Also found out that it won't run in Win 7 64-bit . Looking for a fix now.

EDIT: Since this isn't working in Win 7 64-bit, I definitely believe someone opening the .exe in a text editor trying to fix it.

This is what I use for my LEGAL games: *****link edited out *****

I don't mind games that come with CD checks. I just bypass them.

I usually use ************ for LEGAL games too. Even sometimes if I want to make multiple copies of the same game on the same computer because of mods. No-cd also works for steam games not that you would really want to any way.

Seems the combination of certain nvidia drivers, DEP, and Win 7 64 bit makes it not work for some people. There was a fix to hex edit the .exe of the games, but since the updated a new .exe yesterday someone's going to have to figure it out again.
