As for the name transferring or not, I believe it's not going to because the beta stats aren't, so why would they keep the names?
A lot of games keep reserve the names but wipe the stats, it isn't all that uncommon. As long as there is some link between the beta and retail key I would think the names will be reserved.

I believe there will be no link, as you can (could?) get beta keys without pre-ordering. I could understand for Steam versions since they hand both your beta key and retail key to the same account digitally, but somewhere like Gamestop or EB games would have no control as I'm pretty sure they don't record which key each person gets and have no way to match up retail and beta keys.

Yup, really no way to tell which key is which unless you would goto the EA website, and put it in under your account. I wonder if the price of the "regular" version will be the same price as the "limited" edition? If it's cheaper then I'll wait, since all you get is a beta key, which I already have, and 6 unlocks that will unlockable in the first 11 levels. I'm not really sure because with BFBC for the consoles thety had a "gold" preorder edition that gave you a bunch of unlocked weapons, 5 of which you needed to do a certain thing for each unlock if you didn't get the gold edition like completeing a couple online demo matches, subsscribing to a newsletted, etc. The gold edition was like $10 more, and I tink you always got like a keychain too. So I'm wondering if the regular will be 39.99. I doubt it will be though...

Nope, they stated that the regular edition price is the same as the limited edition, mostly as a way for more people to pre-order and get the bonuses. I believe the limited edition goes away once the game gets released.

Here's the first link from Google, I'm sure there's many others.
EA details Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Limited Edition, same price as normal

And here's Gamestop's pre-order page
Gamestop.com - Buy Battlefield Bad Company 2 Limited Edition - PC

is the beta account in any way linked to an email account or ea account? if not then I guess the names won't be reserved which seems odd to be, but whatever.
