My System Specs

Default Not impressed with graphics in WOW

I have been playing allot of Perfect world International and yesIam fairlt addicted to it , but today My nephew was having problems installing his WoW on his sytem so I walked him through it and also was talked into Downloading the 10 day trial of the ame all I have to say is I installed loaded the game and am not impressed with the graphics at all so I will not be playing WoW. I am not sure how people can get so involved with World of Warcraft with those types of graphics they really suck for the amount of money that people put into it.

should you be impressed... how old is that game now...

also the lack of gpu requirements to run the game is beneficial to its key demographic as you can play the game on almost any computer.

And remember, Graphics aren't everything, I'm sure there is an old nes, snes, atari etc... game that you would still like.

haha Perfect World. I used to play that for a while. It was alright, for a free game I guess. I made it to like level 20 something. AION is good if you like MMOs. I bought it but no longer play because there are so many other games I'd rather be playing then spending my time and money grinding. Frickin takes a couple of days just to level up. Waste of money for me, but oh well. Maybe one day I'll go back. Graphics in AION are probably the best of any MMO on the market. The game was filled with gold spammers when I was playing (when it was released). Dunno if they've banned most of them yet or not. I'm sure they're still there though. You just have to mute them from the chat window :)

The thing of it is, MMO's don't thrive on their graphical prowess. In fact, most MMO's that push the edge in the graphics market end up falling flat. (Think EQ2 and Vanguard) The problem they run in to is, like was previously mentioned here, it limits the constant player base to people with high end machines. In an MMO, especially one with raid content, you need to render everything in the game as you see it, plus everything that's going on around you with all the other players. It can get fairly intense fairly quickly. Even the more modern 'good looking' MMO's are really only average at best compared with currently dated single player games. It's simply the nature of the market.

apperantly the next expansion will make it DX11 compatable so you can get sexy graphics if you want them.

we play because of gameplay, not graphics. That is the nubmer one rule of MMO / blizzard

if you are level 80... the game actually starts and gets fun. Trust me, after the grind u would be doing 25 man dungeons @ 80

WoW didn't have good graphics when it came out, it was made so you didn't need to upgrade your comp at the time and they are obviously not going to increase requirements with expansions or they could lose a lot of customers.

Guild Wars which came out shortly after it had better graphics (and imho better gameplay), but the goal was still to make the requirements as accessible as possible.
