So I left my browser window open to watch the Activision Live Blog on Ars today. Aside from SC2 beta coming this month and no D3 news this is the bomb that was dropped at the end of the conference.

By that they mean they finally realized they've watered down and ruined their current MMO cash cow WoW and even with an expansion on the way which will most likely be the last and end the series they need to start a new one. A CoD MMO seems like a completely stupid idea and should never see the light of day.

what FPS mmo has succeeded so far? I just don't see how it could be successful, but then again people payed 60 USD for MW2 on PC, so it wouldn't surprise me if people stupidly bought into it.

Agreed an MMOFPS is a tall order. They have come and gone and it would really have to be something special to get hardcore FPS MP fans to shell out a monthly subscription, especially for a military styled one. Perhaps if it went the ultra SIM route where you did boot camp, leveled up, and classed your character out as a something like a heli pilot, tank driver, sniper, heavy weapons etc etc... Maybe that would inspire people to shell out the money?
