Default Bioshock Problem

Hey, I just installed Bioshock through steam [standard procedures] on my Windows 7 Professional 64bit.
However, everytime I start the game it crashes immediately. If I choose the -nosound launch options, it works fun [but of course, no sound in game] so I'm thinking it has something to do with the sound drivers or something. I have already updated to the latest drivers so I can not figure out what's going on. It seems a bunch of others have the same problem in other forums and the only fix seems to be -nosound?

Anyone know what's going on?

Have you tried this?

installed Realtek drivers and then enabled Stereo Mixing and now all is good.
or this

What I did to solve that problem is just go to Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> uninstall Rapture 3d. It's some audio program that's not needed and should fix the problem.

Bioshock problem and a suggested solution is uninstall Rapture drivers.... that's a weird coincidence isn't it? Sorta freaky if you ask me.

If you're running Xfire, try shutting that down.

Many of my games crash at startup with Xfire running.

I never had an issue with sound or video with Bioshock. But it is the DVD version of the game. I try to keep away from digital downloads and Steam as much as possible. The problem I see with Steam is that they patch something automatically across the board and it can break someones experience in an attempt to fix another. Similar to drivers. I think it can introduce more problems than it fixes and being a digital download you now have no choice as to run it in it's original form or not. This is just my opinion and does no necessarily reflect on your particular problem.

Assassins Creed is an example I like to point to. In it's original form DX 10.1 is used. Until you "patch" it.

Had the same issue when installed it on my Notebook.....spent hours trying to figure it out, after uninstalling all Creative Soundblaster Drivers / Software it finally loaded no problem without CTD.
