Default Dawn of War 2

I'm sorry, I must be missing something, because all this looks like is a StarCraft clone...

Theres the humans, the protoss and the zerg in essence. And ontop of that a large amount of focus on micro management. This is just from my impressions of the demo, I dont know the first one, and I dont know any of the back story, just looks a lot like starcraft...

it sounds like the zerg like things are just being introduced though. Eh, one way or anouther one is a clone of the other, the eldar just being protoss that can teleport and humans with suits of armour that look a lot like the marines in sc.

cant anyone come up with anything more creative than a bug race invading, must be the most over used alien type around.

Lol and you are just realizing this now? But actually there are a lot of games that have nothing to do with alien bugs. Are you looking for an RTS in particular or will any genre do?

no its just it seems like 90% of movies or games dealing with an invading alien race always have them as big bugs. I think I have enough games to deal with at the moment.

Yeah, it's one of those things that a lot of SC fans don't dwell on too much, but the SC series is pretty blatantly inspired by the 40K series.

hmmm, you learn something new every day. The 2 games seem very similar, and I now know which one came first. It is bugging me now how similar the games are, not really a fan of either, they are just so similar, down even to unit design for crying out loud.

I think Blizzard even pays Games Workshop a cut to use the Zerg and Terran Marines, due to the similarities between them and 40k stuff.

Unit types being comparable? Sure. But the gameplay being the same? No way.

game play is similar, while there is no base building in the demo, as it is the campaign, and I have yet to try it so I cannot comment on that aspect but both are very micro intensive and in that regard the gameplay is similar. I was never very good at starcraft and have not yet really played DOW so these are just impressions from a novice and new comer to the game but to me they seem very similar. Sure you arent building carriers for the Eldar, or using cover like I've seen in DOW but the emphasis on micro makes it so that when you boil the games to the bare bones they are the same gameplay wise.
