I find the big boxes around here (lower mainland) take a few days to get the new games on the shelf, not sure why. Best bet is to keep checking the websites as they are usually pretty quick to update when new games are in store. Then order it online for pickup or make a stop in asap. As for EB just call them and ask.

I didn't see ETW at BB last night either btw.

Saw this at FS last night for $55. No I did not buy it. I think steam has it on for $5 less.

Was going to pick this up tonight with a friend but FS is already sold out (only saw 2 copies there anyways). Nothing at BB and the one EB I checked had nothing either. Same goes for DoW2, I had to hassle BB to grab it for me from the back when I bought it and I have not seen a single copy on a shelf in either BB or FS. Are game publishers trying to force more online sales through lack of product on shelves?

Update... well I went to FS last night, low & behold they had a bunch of copies on the shelf, as well as a bunch of DoW2. Maybe they saw my last post? :P

Do you mean $55 and $80? I only saw the $55 version. The Special Forces Edition... I think $80 is pushing it. But maybe a hardcore TW fan doesn't think so.

There are specialty versions at different retailers that allow you to unlock special units. These are apparently easy to unlock without the codes, but is forbidden by CA and forbidden to be discussed on the official forums and some fan sites wishing to remain in CA's good graces. From what I've read briefly, it's simply a matter of unpacking the files from some archive and deleting a few files. You'll probably find out how by googling.

There is also a "special forces" version with a large number of special unit unlockables that comes with maps, part of a documentary dvd and some other such nonsense. General consensus is that these items are not worth an extra $20-40 they are charging. The unlockables are usually reskins or units with slightly different stats. They are generally regarded as non-essential and you're not missing much by not having them.

Also, overall this game is considered by most to be the buggiest piece of crap CA has ever released and nearly unplayable to some people with constant reoccuring game-breaking crashes, not to mention serious performance and AI issues. Even as a TW fan, I would certainly wait to see how patches improve things before putting down any money on this game. Especially since I view the special retailer unit unlockables and special edition to be one of the most awful marketing scams in video game history, even if the special units are mostly worthless in the grand scheme of things.

My 2 cents

From playing the beta, I know many people saw this thing being crap. Meanwhile, all the review sites made love to it like dogs in heat.

Even after MASSIVE 1/2GB patches, Medieval II: Total War still has some seriously buggy shyte going on. Like 3/4 of a unit staying behind while 10-20 soldiers ham it up in hand to hand combat. Or mysteriously disappearing Bribe options. Or not being able to charge if you start a battle in hiding. Or.....well, you get it.

As for the different versions:

Best Buy Exclusive @ 54.99: Video Games & Toys: PC Games: Empire: Total War (PC) - Best Buy Exclusive | Best Buy Canada Web Store

Regular version @ 59.99: Video Games & Toys: PC Games: Empire: Total War (PC) | Best Buy Canada Web Store

Special Forces Edition @ 79.99 (are they nuts?): Future Shop: Gaming: PC Games: Empire: Total War Special Forces Edition (PC)
