Well I know that I use them at times. Not to help me beat a game but to help me just screw around a bit within a game. Or when a game gliches and the door that is supposed to have opened after killing the robot in Fallout 3 doesn't, I am forced to use the no clipping mode for a minute.

But really cheat codes do have their place in games. I remember me and my friends would have competitions to see who could stay alive the longest while fighting the cops, fbi and army when GTA 3 came out. The rules was you could use only the armor and gun cheats. You would be surprised how quickly you can die even with those cheats when everyone shooting at you has the M16.

I use cheat codes in single player missions the odd time. Especially when I don't have a lot of time to invest in the game and I just want finish it. Who cares who uses cheat codes, its a game. Except when they are use online!

I'll only cheat when im done the game. GTA is a good example. i want more value out of it, so i use it as a sandbox of sorts... find bugs, crash the game etc :)

I played CS 1.6 for 4 years or so, and got bored, so I downloaded hacks. Raging servers and not being VAC banned for about 2 months was pretty fun, but it got old

After that, I started playing legit again, and the game was a lot better.

Therefore, cheating makes boring games more boring.
