the Nvidia geforce 8800 gtx
Hey guys,
I am wondering about the value and stats of the nvidia geforce 8800 gtx.
Is it a "good" video card? What is it better than, and what is it worse than. Is it better than a ATI 4870 or worse? Please respond and give me input.
Thanks. Cheers.

worst then 4870...
maybe onpar with 8800GT and 4850

is it actually worse than the 4970?
but the nhow come it costs like 100 bucks more than it?

It's still a very decent GPU. It isn't as powerful as an HD4870, competes well with HD4850.. and competes well with 8800GTS(512-G92)and at it's best can match the GTX260-192(in a few games/benches). The 768MB of GRAM helps @ ultra-high res. w/eye-candy. It's a pig in power-consumption..and although it and a 9800GTX battle it out.. the 9800 is more energy efficient and cooler-running. The 8800GTX will generally beat a 8800/9800GT. I would only consider one if it was ultra-cheap(well <$200). I have an 9800GTX+ which, if bought cheap(i pd. $180CDN..3 months ago  ) is the better value. /blabbering

Edit: It's more expensive than 4870, as it's "old tech".

oh, well i have a 8800gtx and im trying to compare it with other vid cards and im wondering if it is good. :)

A 8800GTX is faster than a 8800 gt, unless you overclock the 8800gt(G92), then they're almost the same:biggrin:

Edit: A 8800GTX will probably last you another year, no probs

how much better is it than a 8600 gt? or is it worse?

Good all around card really. I don't notice much if any difference from my 8800GT's I had but just waiting to get another GTX so I can SLI them on water & see what they'll OC to.

The 8800GTX is a screamer Card for old technology...as far as being on par with any other 8 Series or 9 Series, absolute crap...the only Card that was faster was the Ultra. As said, even the new 9 Series Cards weren't as fast, why do you think we all held onto that 8800 GTX for so long...didn't make sense at all to "downgrade" to a 9 Series.
check out the Bandwidth of a 8800GTX compared to any 9 Series Card...it is faster by far!! Perhaps not as economical, but in raw speed, faster! It was only with the introduction of the GTX 2 Seires did the 8800 GTX finally run up against a faster GPU (put out nby Nvidia)...
The old 8800 GTX and 8800 Ultra are still damn fast Cards and I would take either of those over ANY 9 Series Card any day!
