All I have played is the be a pro feature really. It is fun for sure, the only thing I dont like is if you are out of the screen chasing someone down by the time you figure out where the puck is it is in your net. Took some getting used to to only play LW and not just go for the puck every time but it gets easier. Im still messing with the different views to figure out which is best for the most vision.

One thing that I hate is the fighting. Whoever connects with 2 punches first wins, so fights last like 2 seconds.

I played 1 game online just to see if it was working but havent had time to get into all the online content. Looks pretty cool when you create a team and join leagues and all that.

Rommel: I've been playing the 360 version for 3 days (non-consecutive) days now and I have a tough time beating the goalies. I try to pass it around and get a man free in the slot (like in real hockey) and yet every time I fire it off, he either shoots wide or the goalie saves it. This isn't any Joe Schmoe we're using either, it's guys like Shane Doan and Joe Sakic. I get really frustrated when playing against another human player and their goalie stones me every single time.

I also tend to hit iron ridiculously often too. In fact, I think I've hit iron at least 3x as much as I've scored. Most of my goals have been junk goals (poke check the goalie or wacky deflections) but none of them nice blistering shots or even dekes for that matter.

I don't have the 360 at home (it's at a friends place) so I don't get much chance to practice if at all.

I learned scoring tricks by spending an hour messing around in practice mode. I couldnt score for shit especially on breakaways. Doesnt sound that fun but it really helps because you learn what kind of shot goes in and what gets saved everytime. I got the slapshot down now (it's all about aiming it), love kicking it back for the 1 timer from Dmen.

It's about timing bro. It is a bit of a challenge but they made the goalies more reactive and smarter to provide a more fluid game. It is frustrating at times but it makes hockey more life-like. Play the goalies in the lower leagues and you'll see they are far easier to beat.

It's tough to deke in this game but once you master the new 5 / 7 o'clock offensive stick moves, you're going to score a lot more on dekes.

i played it on xbox 360 last weekend. I never really got used to the way you shoot and deke with the l and r analog sticks, i always preferred pushing a button to shoot. I played around in the practice breakaway area for a little bit and i am getting used to it. The deke controls are better suited for the analog sticks. The graphics are pretty nice, but i found it a little choppy at sometimes. Maybe it will play better on my ps3. We never tried the online play, but i have a feeling it will be really fun with 4 of your friends playing together against another team online.

has anyone tried both nhl 09 and the 2k sports version of nhl? i was wondering which one is a little simpler, 'arcade' feeling too it as opposed to a simulation feel

You can change the controls to old school style, it is there under settings as classic controls or similar. I didnt like it either at first but I played a lot of NHL 08 on 360 so got used to it then.

I just bought NHL09 for the PC and I am regretting every single penny of it.

Not only does it look NOTHING like the XBox 360 version, it feels very plasticky to the way things move and worst of all my XBox 360 controller doesn't work properly on it...

WHY EA? WHY???

Yeah these game are pretty weak for PC, console is much better. \

BTW if you have PS3 and want full roster updates you can get em here: nhl09ps3 - NHL 09 Roster Update for PS3
This guy does a great job, next update is supposed to come out later today.
