I wholeheartedly agree on the SATA front. I am adding 2 SATA 500gb drives. I want to steer clear of Seagate because of all the drive failures I've heard about. I'm thinking about getting a couple of Deskstars. Any thoughts?

not sure what everyone else experience is but i currently have 9 seagate drives all working fine without a single drive failure.

Ok, I took the plunge and added in a 500gb Seagate Barracuda SATA II drive I bought for 85 bucks new. Using the mmc now to mount and format it, it came naked. I'm keeping the IDE drive for a system drive and using this for my apps and games. Yes, I know what I said about Seagates but the price was far too tempting.

not bad. However, if i was you, i'd switch your OS over to the sata. it'll be must faster. The 640 gb HDD is faster than the 500; however, too late :P I don't know if you know this, but on the back of the seagate hard drive, there is 4 pins, with a little green connecter over 2 of them. Take that green connector off. It makes it go at 3 gb/s as opposed to 1.5 , or so i've read

Yeah, I knew about the SATA I jumper. I took it off when I mounted to drive but thanks for the heads up anyway. Right now, my OS seems pretty responsive and I could be assed doing a clean install on the new drive so having it for apps and games works for now.
