Well I was thinking you could use the floppy drive of the comp you were on...but that doesn't really work...LOL

You can always DL the files and save them on a floppy. Then go out and buy a drive...they cost 8 or 9 dollars at NCIX.

But I don't really understand why it doesn't work....Is all the hardware installed properly? Have you tried another copy of XP or Vista? Are all the BIOS settings at default? Can't think of anything else....

You can go to a used store like value village and pick up a floppy drive for $3.99.

So, I talked to a friend for an hour, I am instead going to try to download Linux, then.. if it all works, and I have no hardware issues, I can go download any driver I need.. and install XP. But I asked this before.. Is Vista better, with XP installed before, or is Vista fine all on it's own?

I don't know if I answered last time but ehm...Vista is fine on it's own....I don't see no difference between a fresh Vista and XP install!

Default your configuration doesn't *require* a driver to install

you could also use any one of a number of boot CDs and check to see if the HDD is recognized.

you will only *need* a driver if you are setting the SATA Mode in the BIOS to [AHCI]. SATA Mode set as [IDE] won't require any drivers to install XP. You wouldn't set the SATA Mode to [RAID] unless you are setting up an array of some kind.

clean installs (not Upgrades) are typically better imo.

You can integrate any/all drivers onto the OS CD/DVD for added convenience.

So I tried installing Linux, and no dice. I don't know what could be the problem now.

Hi,
I see this is an old topic, but wondered about this.
I have seen Jmicron controllers that would NOT boot. Period. (Your BIOS does not really make that clear at times..)
Some mobo makers added them for E-SATA and some add them for internal extra storage only, and you cannot succesfully set up no matter what you try.
You can just take my word I slipstreamed several driver versions while trying to fix this for driverpacks.
I had a couple test moboes on which I got licked on those that were added as tertiary storage solution.
:(

The problem is that he has his SATA set to AHCI in the bios which requires RAID drivers. Turn this off and you should be fine.

Linux has isues with some acpi systems which will cause you to not be able to use it which I ran into trying to install Ubuntu onto my machine.
