I personally wouldn't want an S-PVA for 2560x1600.

IPS is what i'd recommend, which means that HP, or the Dells.

The Gateway & Samsung are both S-PVAs.

[H] has pretty good discussions on all of them if you check out the threads on their display forums.

saw the Gateway at Best Buy today.... certainly looks impressive. Wish I could see the Dell and HP in action....

was just looking up the best prices. The Dells in Canada are much more than in the US. In the US the 3007 is currently $1,199.00

Dell 3008WFP ($1,749.00)
Dell 3007WFP-HC ($1,599.00)
HP LP3065 ($1,582.00)
Gateway XHD3000 ($1,379.00)
LG W3000H-BN ($1,299.00)
Samsung 305T ($1,129.00)

Thats almost a $500 difference between the Samsung and the Dell 3007

You're guess is not an answer either. Why? Refresh rate on PVA is faster than IPS. I'd think this is better for gaming, no?

IPS > PVA in pretty much every way.

More accurate colors, better viewing angles, lower response times, less input lag.

There are many reviews & user opinions on the very subject, & the overwhelming number agree IPS is the best.

There's not really much question on this...tbh i'm a bit surprised you guys don't all know this.

Okay this link should clear up some questions.
AnandTech - The LCD Thread

Best two places for serious reviews by people that know their stuff:
BeHardware - Monitors
X-bit labs - Articles

And the best forums for information on LCDs (though be warned, there's a lot of n00bs posting to sift through):
Displays - [H]ard|Forum

*VA has a higher input lag compared to IPS, but nothing most people would notice. I would say it would depend on your usage. IPS definitely offers better colour reproduction, better viewing angles, and a more uniform display, but *VA offers deeper blacks.

That's a smoking price on that LG (uses an LG.Philips S-IPS panel; same as the Dells and HP). I've seen it at Futureshop and, while it certainly isn't feature-packed, it looks excellent.

My personal favourite is the HP, though.
