I have seen SBCs and small computers targeted for kiosks, POS, and industrial applications that have on board video with an LCD controller. If your idea is to make something special you could probably use one of these. Is it just the bare panel or do you have the lid from a laptop?
You have two issues. First, you need to power the backlite. It is most likely a cathode lite and you will need high voltage to make it light up. Is the inverter part of the rig you have?
Do you have a part number. Can you get the pinout? The vast majority of LCD panels use a standard 40 pin interface, IIRC. Like most busses half those are ground wires and many laptop screens do not bother with them as 1 inch of gold foil is not going to be very susceptible to EM interference. If you can match it up you might be able to sacrifice a LCD screen for the video2LCD interface. I have a dead BenQ screen that I think has a dead panel. I can strip the circuit guts and mail them to you if you can find some specs on your panel.
