My System Specs

Default Acer Predator X27

Predator X27

Product Link

27"
IPS, HDR, Quantum Dot
16:9
38402160
G-Sync
ULMB
144hz

$2000 USD - Newegg US

$2799 CAD - Newegg / Amazon

Competitor - Asus ASUS PG27UQ (same specifications)

Cost and late arrival make these potentially irrelevant despite the impressive specs. TV tech continues to advance yearly, and it's gotten to that point that even I can't deny the logic in someone picking something like a 55" LG C7 OLED over this.

....I'd still get the monitor if I had to choose . Maybe.

They really fudged it up by no pushing the monitor back for HDMI 2.1 to support 4:4:4 chroma at 144hz. These monitors aren't even worth $1000 without that, text will look horrible.

I still have a hard time getting my mind around 4K in a 27". That is the main thing that just puzzles me with these. Well, that and the price. I paid a fair bit for my X34 of course, but these just don't seem worth that much coin to me. Granted I haven't experienced HDR in person, but I'm not convinced I need it for $2k+ that's for sure.

Yea, sure the dpi on a 4k 27" is nice, but honestly give me a 34-35" ultrawide any day. And I'm sorry but 2k? USD? Not worth it at all. You can get my Alienware 34" 3440x1440 120Hz G-sync panel for about a grand less, or even cheaper when on sale.

Next upgrade for me won't be at least until we have 34" or more ultrawide at 5040*2160 @120-144Hz G-sync HDR. But I get the feeling that will be a few years at least before either the monitors or the cards that can drive them come out.

Agreed, Linus got an early release Asus model, the drivers and some features in his video aren't the full release ones, but he did point out that the text looked wonky, exactly as you said, and IMO that's a no go for me. I've been waiting SO long for these effing things, I have 3 Asus and on Acer Gsync gaming LCD, 34 and 27" 1440p units, and haven't bought a 60hz 4k from either (I had the early 2016 Acer 28" 4k Gsync for a time), as I've been waiting for these.

Heh, a bit disappointed, the price is frankly ridiculous too, 2.5 x as much as the 165hz IPS Gsync 27"...come ON, that's nonsense.

I can buy an LG OLED 4k 55" for $500 less than the 27" 4k 144hz...

I usually am a first adopter of all new nVidia GPUs and new gaming tech LCDs like these, but not this time. What's crazy is all the places I looked at pre ordering are sold out, so not everyone feels as we do, lots of guys buying them up. Who knows, maybe I'll change my mind depending on the reviews of the release ones, but I think that unlikely.

I'm gonna stick with the 34" AW Gsync panel...when I finally do drop the 1200 bucks.

But right now a new set of skis is much higher priority

My thoughts exactly, I've been waiting a long time and this launch is a failure. So I'll continue using my pg279q until all boxes are checked, I don't care of the cost I just want a monitor that I can happily use for 5-10 years. Maybe I'll consider the 200hz UW displays later this year IF they can get 4:4:4 @ 200hz, and it has 1000 NIT backlight with proper HDR support.

Isn't a 1000 nits peak HDR brightness going to blind you? I would estimate I run my monitors around 100 nit brightness or there about as it's the first setting I lower when plugging in a monitor.

1000 peak nit brightness is a requirement to be fully HDR compliant

Deal on Acer Predator XB271HU through Ebay with PICKDADSGIFT promo code for $130 off. Works out to $820 taxes in, express shipping for an additional $25...

Alternatively, I could get the AW 34 for (1100-130), plus tax...

Think I should jump on one of them? Wife wont be happy...but, you know. Sometimes you play with fire
