Default 1080p monitor 23/24"?

My 22" monitor stopped working. It won't turn on. It's not LED....it's several years old.

I need something soon. My 1360 x 768 TV (that has a broken panel/something broke in the tv - there's a problem with the colour - when I use it as a monitor.... can see colour distortion etc. - not sure what you call it) is not suitable.

I'm thinking of just replacing the old one with a 23 - 24" monitor w/ 1080p...for now. I don't want to budget much so is $150 a good price for these? I think there's not too many for that price and I will wait for one to be on sale at not much more than that. I'm just wondering what features/specs are necessary - LED w/ IPS/PLS panel, right? If I use HDMI with it, do I need a display port to hdmi adapter for my video card? I'm using the TV with hdmi plugged into the computer now - I use it for watching streaming/video etc. The text on the tv is pretty bad and the 'brightness' - maybe I need to adjust the settings - but I changed settings to suit a hockey game a while back and just left them. So, maybe I don't want to touch them... I dunno.

I thought people here recommended 1440p/2K monitors but I think the cheapest ones are $300? Does it matter which size you go to?

I know some 'no-name/unpopular' brand 4K monitors are out there for $300+ but I don't know how good they are (for e.g., Sceptre 28?" 4K). I also looked at Chroma 4:4:4 TVs but these are expensive - $400 and up? These might be options for later but for now, I guess I'll look for a cheap 23" - 24" 1080p monitor that has no major flaws - hopefully. I know most of these don't have speakers and I won't get a hdmi cable with it - I think there's an extra one around here. But, I need to find out what set-up I need if I want to keep using the TV - just for a bigger screen.

Is the Acer G247HYL bmidx a good monitor?

4k for desktop use is too much and for 1080p I wouldn't do anything less than 24"

Customer reviews seem to like that Acer, and it would be tough to beat the $149 price at Best Buy.

Canada Computers will have the Asus PB277Q tomorrow for 119.99 (99.99 with MIR). 27" and 1440p. TN panel although can't really go wrong at that price.

That's why I was looking at the Acer. Best Buy has some returns/open box monitors but I guess that is a risk?

Newegg /Amazon also has some $140/$150 monitors but I think some are the LG refurbished ones.

That's a large discount? Is there anything to worry about regarding a TN panel vs IPS? I thought an IPS was the panel type to go for. That's really good though - the price and 1444p?!?

Looks like the price was not put on the right item yesterday, it was on the monitor. Was kinda too good to be true!

Which won't be good for a monitor - so, do you mean it can replace the TV I have now?

I messed around with the settings and improved the picture somewhat - at least, the text and brightness/contract/ etc. settings. But, it's still not 4:4:4 or very good as a monitor.
