Default Display Port

Why are projector manufacturers so scared of this input?

Not for 3D. It is limited to 720p@60Hz in 3D. 2D will do 1080p@60Hz. Or 1080p@30Hz. HDMI is very limited in bandwidth. Good for movies, not so much for gaming.

Makes me wonder why they bothered with the 3D gaming angle in the first place.

HDMI 1.4b was released on October 11, 2011.[152] One of the new features is that it adds support to 3D 1080p video at 120 Hz -allowing frame packing 3D format at 1080p60 per Eye (120 Hz total) .[153] All future versions of the HDMI specification will be made by the HDMI Forum that was created on October 25, 2011.[43][154]

^ pwned.

It's just not necessary. Anything that outputs to a projector is going to most likely have HDMI.

Honestly I am not sure why Displayport was even BOTHERED with since we have HDMI. I can understand Thunderbolt as that is a multifunction interface that can do a whole lot more.

The reason for DisplayPort was to offer something that had no royalties as a connection alternative to HDMI.

Every time you advertise or use HDMI you have to pay for that licensing fee (which I imagine is small but it can add up over time). Your Graphics card has an HDMI port? Well HDMI just got some cash for you buying it. Your TV, same thing.

One good reason for DisplayPort, is the fact you only need 1 cable to do 4k at 60Hz, otherwise you need 2 HDMI cables to accomplish the same thing (4k at 30Hz for one HDMI cable)

OK, that is not what I hear. Do you know of a sub $3000.00 projector that will output 3D 1080p@60Hz/FPS per eye?

I think HDMI 2.0 is able to do 4K @ 60Hz now. Not sure what all uses HDMI 2.0 yet though.
