Default How to calibrate monitors?

Hey all,

I have never calibrated the colors on my monitor before. I have heard about and would like to do so. Is there a program and software that I cna download to do so? I have DELL ST2320L. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Windows has a built in utility that adjusts things like brightness, contrast, and sharpness, but if you want to do a proper job you need to get a hardware solution as opposed to a software solution which is subjective at best.

DVE or Avia does a passable job for those not photo editing.

I use ColorVision's Spyder2Express (very old model). You can probably get a cheap used one. It works on win7 with its own software. I also use the hardware part to calibrate in Linux/debian using the free Argyll software.
BTW, I need to calibrate because I process photo images. For the games, you do not need it, since most games would kick it out before starting(at least that is the impression I get, but not sure)

I've used the spyder express as well. It seems to do an good job. It gives you a color profile which is applied to the video card. I'd rather have a hardware solution that i could use to calibrate a tv or any other screen that doesnt use software but this is fine for a PC.
