My System Specs

Default Any opinions on Samsung 51" plasma?

My Dad needs a new TV, and so far has picked out the PN51F5500

It's available locally for a little under $900. I know very little about tv's, just want to check it's a decent buy.

-Room is well shaded
-3D is not a big deal
-would like to stream movies etc. wirelessly to the set
-Preferred size is 50-52" screen
-Skype needs to work fairly well

Not sure what else to consider.. opinions welcome!

Default plasma

Having owned a panny 50" plasma for a few years now I can honestly say its been a great TV. However you need to put them in a dark room. In the winter the picture is great but during lighter days you get a lot of reflection off the glass. Friends with a LCD or LED tvs have no problem watching them in well lit rooms.
I like the reviews here for tvs HDTV Spotlight: What Makes the Samsung F8500 Plasma TV So Special?: BigPictureBigSound
I do not know a lot about samsung for their plasma TV's, but I sure like there LCD and LED products.
When it comes to plasma I usually stick with Panasonic as Pioneer no longer makes them.

Hope that helps. Good luck with the purchase

That F5500 looks like a great all-round TV.

Panny Vieras (especially the value UT series this year) are a better set then the Samsungs.
