720p vrs 1080i

1080i has a resolution of 1920x1080 sent at 60 interlaced frames per second or 30 complete frames per second. 1080i has a total image resolution of 2073600 pixels (like a 2 mega pixels camera). 720p. has a resolution of 1280x720 but sends 60 complete frames per second with a total image pixel count of 921600 pixels(roughly a 1 mega pixel camera). now saying which one is better truthfully that depends of the quality of parts they used for decoding. also what signal your using plus what do you watch. the distance you sit from the screen, angle lighting should be asked or taking into consideration when buying a tv. now i prefer 720p only because i own a 720p tv. between those two but i would buy 1080p.

I say use 1080i. TV's today and even TV's a few years old have total garbage for an up-scaler. I'm a gamer so its especially annoying when playing on TV's with crap scalers. De-interlacers seem to improved in terms of reducing overall input lag so I would stick with the highest resolution the box will output; less work for the TV to do and at distance most people watch TV at (6-10 feet away) the flicking was an non issue for me @ 1080i. I also did see a crisper image @ 1080i compared to the same source @ 720p
