Cheap 27" Monitor

I know the first recommendation will be all those Korean models of various brands, but let's exclude those for the time being.

Looking at stuff NCIX/Newegg/Canada Computer/etc sells, so all the major brands. 1080p is perfectly fine, primary usage would be web browsing and movie watching. Ideally under $300 as well.

BenQ GW2750HM 27IN Widescreen A-MVA LED Monitor 20M:1 4MS HDMI DVI VGA Black Speaker

Something like a BenQ 27in VA panel might be ok but possibly a viewing angle issue depending on how you watch movies.

Like if you want to sit back in bed or on a couch it might not be ideal but to watch movies in your computer chair it would be fine.

Yeah that one seems decent enough, but I see it went for $199 prior to the holidays. NCIX has it at $249 this week, but that's still $50 more...

It's going to be hard to find a monitor whose holiday price will be seen again for a while, so you may want to forget about the holiday sale prices unless you're willing to wait for the next big sale season (which I don't even know when that will be)

Hell according to shopbot the cheapest that monitor is right now is 264$

Monoprice has rebranded 27" IPS 1440p Korean monitors for sale now.

I know Monoprice has that, but it's not in stock until end of March at which point I'm guessing it'll be sold out anyhow.

This is for my dad and right now he's using a 26" TV with 1366x768 resolution. Basically he needs large font sizes, ideally without increasing the DPI settings. 1080p at 27" should be alright, I know he wouldn't be able to use 1440p for sure.

My dad likes his 27" 1080P monitor as everything is larger than his old 24" monitor.

Ended up with the BenQ, it was $239 at Canada Computers and they offer a 0 dead-pixel warranty on all BenQ monitors.

Looks pretty good, obviously not as good as my U2711, but for the price you can't go wrong. No noticeable ghosting or lag either. Used the settings from TFT Central along with their ICM profile.

Still had to bump the DPI up to 110% for my dad to see things without his glasses though.
