No offence, but that's not the best way to test it (image retention). I've had 2 of them, both with image retention, and while it's very possible they came from a bad batch, I would really appreciate it if you tested for image retention this way:

1. Leave it off for a few hours - IR doesn't seem to be permanent on this model, it goes away after a while but comes back overnight
2. As soon as you turn it on, leave one explorer window or white image on a dark background
3. After 15-20 minutes, check for image retention on dark gray background, specifically 80% gray or 47-47-47 RGB values

Also, when was yours manufactured? Mine was in June 2012.

Thank you very much for that much expected review, do you have any news about the 30' version (using that very same new LG panel) ?

I already have a ("cheap") Iiyama ProLite B2712HDS and my next monotor will be a 30' one ....

Looks like August 2012. Not sure where you are located but it seems to be that the North American market may be receiving new-build units.

Am sorting out a replacement with Dell at the mo.

That is very odd but I don't typically use non-realistic situations like that when using a monitor. I'll check it out tonight though.

I must say though I got image retention under pretty regular situations - so its definitely a problem as opposed to an extreme event outcome.

I can actually read the text of my burned image :(

@SKYMTL While the method I listed may seem unrealistic, the point is just to provide a definitive test.

In reality, I got image retention after working with a few side by side windows for about 40 minutes, something that shouldn't be uncommon with a monitor this size. After that I started writing a forum post and got image retention from the "new message" window after only 10 minutes.
And while it's true that image retention will mostly be visible under a certain shade of gray, newer 3ds Max versions and Photoshop CS6 have this exact interface color. Also, when I took it back to the shop for testing, slight traces were also visible on the standard Win7 wallpaper.

Anyway, I'll just wait for your results, and hopefully the newer build you have will be free of this issue. :)
Btw, did you see and backlight bleeding on your sample?

With the test sample I never noticed any image burn in issue. I used it for both excel and processioning tasks for hours and at time, both in full screen and SxS windowed mode. I use CS6 for all photo manipulation and went from using PhotoShop to excel to word constantly for days at a time and didnt notice any burn in. This doesnt mean it wasnt there, but I can honestly say I never noticed it. I also did not notice any screen door effect on our sample. If I had I would have made sure to include it in the review as that would have been disappointing to say the least!

As Sky said about his personal U2713 it could be simply a case of N.A. vs European batch differences. It is very likely that they worked out the kinks on this new model before it was released on this side of the pond. A sample size of 2 (review sample and retail) is awfully, awfully small...but it does make sense.

There was also only a minor amount of backlight bleed from my sample. Certainly not enough to be distracting while watching movies & playing games on it in a dark room. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the feedback! I was gunning for the same explanation, that newer batches got rid of the issue. I sure hope it's true, this way I can just wait a few months and try again.

PS: I actually had IR on 2 units, before I ultimately got my money back. But yeah, very small sample size (so far) :)

dell canada`s website lists the monitor for 841,and shipping october this year
