My System Specs

Default $430 Nixeus 27" S-IPS Monitor

Looks like there will finally be an affordable North American alternative to the Korean (Catleap/Achieva) IPS monitors AnandTech - Nixeus Vue 27" : A $430 WQHD (2560x1440) S-IPS LED Monitor Hopefully we'll be able to get these in Canada (Looks at Linus/NCIX ) I know i'd certainly be in the market for one if they turn out to be decent.

Bring them down to $280 and free shipping and I'm all over it....

Still need decent 27" 16:10. I've only seen one with a resonable price, they say they sell into Canada but have yet to see a retiler carry them.

People who are jumping on these cheap IPS monitors: don't come crying to HWC's forums when the power supply or backlight takes a shit in under 2 years.

Lol, yea that is the risk level. I'll let you know when mine dies, but hoping I get a few decent years out of it!

And that is why I will wait until I got the money for one of the Dells. To me any purchase that is expensive should have a decent warranty and you just can't beat the warranty that you get with the Dell Ultrasharps. Plus I believe that they are the only ones that will cross ship if you do have a problem.

Yeah I'm glad for the warranty on the Ultrasharps as well. Got a bright pixel on mine just recently, (after roughly ~1 year) but I'll be RMAing it soon thanks to the zero bright pixel warranty.

*shrug* risk vs return. Isn't that what these hardware enthusiast forums are all about? Pushing a cheapo i3 530 to 4.5 GHz and running it for as long as possible. Unlocking the fourth core of an X3, unlocking shaders on a 9500 PRO. etc etc.

Backlight is LED... if the PCBs burn out it's also replaceable. Hopefully by the time it fries (that's even if it does), the gents over at 120hz will have their reverse engineered 2B PCBs available. Otherwise you can order a replacement board from greensum.

PSU can be replaced, it's external. This is probably the part you should be least concerned with.

I was a skeptic at first, but when I got my Extreme "2B" with an almost flawless panel (slight BL bleed at 100% brightness) I see why everyone is raving about it. This is coming from someone who's owned various Dell Ultrasharps since 2005.

Risk versus return. The issue with that statement is you have no idea how long the "return" will last. You can talk all you want about how good it looks now but I'd rather pay the 50% more for a Dell UltraSharp and get peace of mind.
