Need help! Identify a 5.25 USB LCD display

Hey all, i have the below 5.25 usb lcd module that i want to toss into my HTPC (since i never use the dvd drive in there anyway). Problem is i got this a few years ago (2-3) and can't remember the manufacturer or model # - which means i cant find the programmable software i once had to control what is displayed.

Here are a few pictures:

Does anyone have any ideas what this might be? Last time i tried plugging it in i had the backlight go on but no info on the screen. Its white characters on a blue background, and i believe is 20x4.

Thanks in advance to everyone that helps.

crystalfontz comes to mind but kinda looks a temp / fan moniter screen ......what happens with powering it up via floppy connector .....does screen give any info molex is the output power

would need a multi-meter to figure out the pinouts on floppy

or the floppy is the usb port and molex is power

Its definitely not a fan/temp controller, i seem to remember multiple programmable screens (think EQ, processor usage, etc etc etc).

When i power it up in a system the backlight turns on the first character blinks like a cursor. Windows update installs a driver "FT232R USB UART" which then becomes a Usb serial port. At that point, im left with an unknown usb device, which im assuming is the display controller itself. Can't get beyond that point

The only i found is "2004C" and "0640" on the back of the LCD PCB itself (third picture). Nothing on the first (main) PCB except for "LCB USB interface board"

That main PCB also has the following jumpers: Boot (closed), Clean (Closed) and PGM (all open, 6 pins in a 3x2 grid).

I have seen that before in my Shuttle days. I am pretty sure that it is what the other guy said...a Crystalfontz. Try their software and see if it works.

You could always try System Information For Windows. This should at least give you a vendor id or other hardware information on it.

Little update: Nothing from Crystal fontz or Matrix Orbital seem to work, System info only lists the USB serial converter and USB COM3, nothing else.

Im out of ideas... :blarg:

If it's a few years old then you may have trouble finding drivers for Win7 for it, especially if it was discontinued before or around when Win 7 was released.
