Thumbs up a question about monitor latency...

i heard that gamers should use monitors that have 2ms latency and i can definitely understand why, but how bad does it get if you use a monitor with 5ms latency? is it noticeably sluggish? does it get annoying during fast action? if you play a ultra-fast paced game, let's say something like sonic generations, will it be crap?

I can't say that 3ms is a really huge difference. As long as vsync is off I can't tell the difference between the two. However, if you can go for 2ms :)

My monitor is 5ms.
It's fine for gaming and I don't notice any ghosting or lag.

I use Dell 2405 which has 12 ms (grey to grey), 16ms black to white. I get these flashing random triangular shaped objects appearing on the screen. Also, it is 60 hz. I wonder if the response time is the problem. Playing older games like spiderman3 is no problem, but mini-ninja has these random objects.

Sorry for side tracking here, but my question is relevant to response time.

Just letting you guys know that whatever the latency posted is whatever the fastest they could get it at and not what it always runs at. Also, the difference between 3 ms is not noticeable by the human eye whatsoever. It's mainly a marketing gimmick and excuse to charge more.

As above, mostly. It's definitely something to watch for on things like slow IPS screens, but anything under 25 or something I believe is not too noticeable, 5 is perfectly fine.
