Physical display size and video memory
 
I have a few questions about available video memory and how having a larger display affects it. I am running an EVGA Classified GTX 590 out to a 52" 60Hz Sharp Aquos TV for a main display. Will the size of the TV adversely effect the way my games perform? If so, would I be better off getting a smaller monitor capable of higher refresh rates? Or just upgrading my video card solution to a 4 way SLI config?

Your res is 1920x1080, it isnt about the size of the screen but about resolution size, res size determines the pixel destiny, more pixels more horsepower is needed.
If you want a visual upgrade then grab a 30" dell or Sammy with 2560x1600 or a 27 with 2560x1440 it will look soo much better than gaming on a 1080 TV.

Pretty much what grover said, a 22" 1080P monitor would perform just as well as a 52" TV would, but it would look worlds better on a computer monitor.

So the only performance related limitations come from multiple displays (EYEfinity, Nvidia Surround) Right?

Or higher resolution monitors, yes.

With that 590 you have enough horsepower to power a single larger monitor gaming, I wouldnt try it with a 3xu2711 say.

The 590 @ a res of 1080 is overkill but would work very well at 2560x1440/1600.
The jump in density is pretty big once you move from 1080.

Edit:

Here is a quick example incase you dont understand me, disregard if you do:

1920x1080=2073600 pixels

2560x1440=3686400 pixels

2560x1600=4096000 pixels

So you can see the difference from a 1080 to 2560x1600 is almost dbl.
