sonys new 3d monitor?
I was in walmart and saw sonys new PlayStation 3 3d LED 24 inch monitor, For 499.00. So what gives? How is this monitor any better than say another 24 inch 3d monitor?
I really want to know as I am getting very serious about getting a 3d monitor for my desktop.
I just dont get how they are charging a 200 premium for their 3d led monitor. Please if anybody can shed some light on this situation I would be very happy. I don't want the wife to buy me the wrong monitor.
Why is it so expensive? It says $ony on the front.
Really though, it has a feature called "simulview" that allows for split screen 3D. It is also bundled with one pair of glasses and a game. If you don't intend on playing splitscreen in 3D then you may as well save the $200 and go with a different monitor.
I tried one out and took advantage of Best Buy's return policy not even a week after I grabbed it and took it home.
First off, Simulview only works with game support, so you can't play other, older favorites.
Second, the pixel response is very slow and even with the supposed 120hz refresh rate, it doesn't seem to take advantage of it because the panel itself is a C-PVA panel without very good pixel response.
Third, it cannot use HDMI 120hz with a PC, and it doesn't support 4:4:4 chroma sub-sampling, so if you have red or blue text on a black background, or vice versa with black text on a red or blue background, the text appears fuzzy.
In addition, the speakers are horrible, the 3D is ho-hum, and the glass on the front causes major reflection.
Honestly I'd probably say the Samsung S23A700D for $399.99 from Future Shop is better. I'm not sure if it can do 120hz/3D with a console, but a little googling should get you that answer. In other countries, like the U.S. I think it is the S23A750D.
