My System Specs

Smile One Big tv or multi monitor

I'm pretty sure about the consensus, but thought I'd ask anyway. I use a 55" LED 120hz tv, using HDMI, as my monitor. Though I've never actually seen a setup in person, I'm wondering if the multi

monitor setup is really that much better, or is it for extremists and not really. I understand this is subjective as I like my current setup, but would like to hear from the experts on this site and learn the

pros and cons of either one.

Edit: I forgot to mention my gpus, a pair of 580s in sli.

single screen: cheaper, run games with settings maxed out,

surround setup
: 3x the resolution, more immersive gaming experience, more expensive, needs lots of gpu horsepower, screen bezels, driver issues?

tvs also have some input lag that is caused by the TV encoder thingy, but the amount depends on the TV model

It depends on the games you play.

I bought 3 screens for racing games, or flight sims, and I would have a hard time playing them with a single screen. I simply love it. On the other hand, for FPS, or action games, I usually find myself playing in 1 screen anyways, as a lot of games don't support it properly.
If you only play FPS/action/RTS, it isn't really worth the trouble, for racing/flight sims there isn't a doubt, it is absolutely great.

There is also the point about desktop real estate. When I am working on things, 1 screen has information, screen 2 has documents, and screen 3 varies. Images, video, ebooks, music player. 2 screens is the minimum for me when working I find now.

Edit: 580s will have the guts to run most things.

I would like to retract my statement about it not being worth it. When I know a game supports it, I love it. I would look at some specific games you want to play, and if they have major problems, then I would avoid 3 screens for now. BF3, Skyrim, MW3 do not support it properly,

I'm just wondering. Isn't SLI 580s a LOT of horsepower for 1080 resolution? You could easily get two more 55" TV's and run 3 of them at the same time. Wouldn't that be something?

Hahah, get a 30" at 2560x1600 and you'll be amazed at how nice it looks compared to a TV. Either way, the monitors will provide you with much better quality (and you can even get 120hz monitors and not use 3D vision).

Also, multi-monitor setups are amazing for the productivity (have a movie running in one, your web browser and chat in another, a game in the 3rd, or some other crap... etc).

My suggestion: use monitor(s) over a TV screen.
