What happened to 16:10 displays? So whatever happened to 16:10 displays (e.g. 1920x1200)??? I've been looking to replace my old HP (1680x1050), but thus far I've been quite unsuccessful in finding a non-1080p candidate! I prefer 16:10 because the vast majority of my wallpaper collection is in 16:10, and I'd really hate to lose them and have to find new ones. Any suggestions on where to find 16:10 displays, or have they gone extinct? Thanks! |
You can find them at a lot of places. NCIX, Canada Computers,Tiger Direct etc. etc. Where do you live? |
The choice has always been more limited as far as I'm concerned. The price is usually higher, but the gain in height is very important and I wouldn't get a 16:9, unless I got a tv. |

My local ncix stores do carry a few, but most of them are way out of my price range. I'm looking for a 24" LED-backlit LCD in the $200-350 price range, and it has to be ideal for gaming (at least 5ms response time...2ms preferred) and has DVI input. I found one at ncix, and I'm very tempted to buy it since it's also a Samsung...just wondering if more options will be coming out in the future or are 16:10 displays gone for good. Thanks so much! |

16:10 is in the past. 16:9 panels are cheaper to produce. |

My two top candidates right now are the Samsung S24A450UW and the Dell Ultrasharp U2412M: NCIX.com - Buy Samsung S24A450UW 24IN Widescreen LED LCD Monitor 1920X1200 5ms 1000:1 VGA DVI HAS - Samsung - LS24A450UWT/ZA - in Canada DELL Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor : Computer Accessories and PC Components | Dell Canada Which one would you guys recommend for everyday gaming & movie watching? Bear in mind that with my current HP w2207, aside from the screen size, I'm pretty happy with its performance. |

Granted the Dell is an IPS panel, a low quality one, but an IPS either way and the Samsung has a TN (I guess) panel, the obvious choice goes to the Dell monitor. But a choice can't be made before reading this review, I forgot parts of what it says, so I will leave it up to you to read. Having personally gone with the U2410 (the better U2412M) and comparing it to other TN panels around me, I can say that this IPS panel is truly worth it. However, I know Samsung is said to produce good monitor, I just can't judge them because I do not own any of them. |
Manufacturers think people want 16:9 but personally I hate 16:9 for anything other than movies. Games are meant to be played on a 16:10 screen. |
