My System Specs

Default 46"+ TV Advice

It seems my parents would like to upgrade their 42" 1080 Sammy LCD (60Hz) monitor to something slightly bigger, then put this 42" into the basement (to allow my dad to watch his sports games in HD) and get rid of their old 32" Tube TV.

They were looking at this Samsung 46" 1080p 60Hz LCD HDTV (LN46D550K1FXZC) : 40" - 49" LCD TVs - Best Buy Canada

My question is though, whom would be the best brand and type of TV to go with. They mainly watch HD and SD shows, recording and watching HD movies when they are on TV, and my dad watches sports sometimes, but that's not really the main focus.

They have been happy with their Sammy for several years (as am I with my own) however I have been out of the TV market for several years and would like some advice. Thanks

Myself I'd go with a Sammy first and then a Panasonic second.

i bought a 50" lg plasma
for both sd and hd its verry nice
price was good too 540$ on sale @ costco

i woulda liked an lcd cause of glare of the plasma screen but i needed good sd picture
i was gonna buy the panasonic 1080p plasma has no glare but price n inputs .....

best thing about costco is no hassle return
i had bought the 42" returned it n got the 50"
then a few weeks later saw it on sale for 540 n got refunded the difference

1. if glare isn't an issue get a panasonic plasma. If so get a sammy lcd as been said here already.
2. On costco. Not sure what it's like where you guys are but here in ottawa most of the selection at costco is pure crap. Mostly out of date models.
