I'm no pro, but here are a few things I am noticing.

The aspect ratio is 16:9 which is less than optimal IMHO. The point that hurts the most is the resolution which is just 1080p, whereas the U3011 is a fare bit bigger, I forgot the exact numbers, but something like 2500 x 1600. So the image will look better from a closer viewing distance than this one.

As said by Kilauea, the big difference is in the resolution. That 42" is at a standard TV 1080p resolution, while the U3011 is at 2560x1600. So you get way more screen real estate with the 30".

Also depending on how far you are sitting from the monitor the 42" will not look as good as the u3011. Plus I was looking and that 42" is designed more for a video wall application so I'm not totally sure how it would be for something like gaming. Really if you want 42" @1080p then you are better off just getting a nice TV for less than that monitor, but if you want a good monitor for your computer then the U3011 is a very good monitor.
