Lets talk 27IN monitors

Honestly, I would NEVER but a 1080P 27" monitor for a PC. Due to the proximity of your seating position, the monitor's dot pitch will make images look absolutely horrible from close up. As people have already stated, buying a 1920 x 1200 24" model will allow a better view in games and will look great from up close.

So you are saying what rjbarker and JD are saying. The only true 27" monitor worth getting out there is the Dell U2711.

Ok now that I have that cleared up. And the 3 of you have suggest that I get a 24" 1920x1200 60hz monitor.

I just want to know your opinion or thoughts on a 23.6" 1920x1080 120Hz monitor.

Look, if your set with getting a 27" go get it.

Just make sure you can return/exchange it if you change your mind.

I have been running a Samsung 1920x1200 for over three years and I still love it and would not change it for anything. Not even a Dell 30" as it would be too big for my situation. As far as text, it is crisp and clear and gaming is just great. Surfing the net for hours and gaming for hours is not hard on the eyes. No headaches at all when reading for a long time. I would strongly recommend the 1920x1200 res. The 1200 is very important for no headaches as I have used a friends 1080 and did not like it at all.

I have yet to see a 23.6 120Hz monitor that didn't suffer from some kind of issue. They all seem to be using the same crappy TN panel that exhibits backlight bleed, clouding, poor contrast and horribly inaccurate colours. In addition, if you are gaming the extra 120 pixels of vertical space given by a "true" 24" monitor makes (IMO) a big difference.

Well I had this: Acer B273HU Review which was the only 27" TN-panel that used 2048x1152 that I'm aware of. It was pretty decent and a good middle ground between 2560x1440 and 1920x1080. However I doubt you can buy it anymore.

As others have said though...what's your main purpose? How far do you typically sit from the monitor? It's feasible a 27" 1080p monitor will look fine to you. It really depends how picky you are, how close you sit, and how good your eyesight is.

For 23-24", I'd go with:

The IPS would definitely have better colour reproduction and viewing angles but obviously a slightly smaller screen.

If memory serves me correct, that Samsung you linked is a rather old model (probably discontinued now) and I believe it had some issues with colour uniformity. Again, it depends how picky you are with image quality.

Samsung 2443BW is darn good monitor but I'd still say the Dell is better. I'm not sure what the price will be like but I hear LG is coming up with new IPS monitors and 27 inch is due end of this month. Not sure what the resolution will be like but it's supposed to be very affordable.

I'd wait and see how that turns out considering Dell's IPS panel is made by LG-Philips

That Sammy 1920 x 1200 is what I had before I got my Dell 27", it was an excellent monitor for the price....think I paid around $325 for it and was quite happy with it!!
