My System Specs

Default

Ok we are both lost. I just re-read the whole thing and there is a details I forget to mention that is pretty important. It's a dual player. DVD and VCR in the same box. On the back of it there is 2 series of output one set for DVD and one set for both DVD and VHS. Out of those 2 set there is a HDMI that output only the signal of the TV ( so it's pretty useless ) and the coax is just aside so I have no idea if it can output signal from the DVD or VHS or both.
Better now?

Perhaps some pictures of the back of this VHS/DVD combo and your TV would help...

To my knowledge most DVD/VCR combos will output over all of their connectors out, just depends on the setting you set when using the device.

This is the exact same thing that I have but 2 details. I bought mine at futureshop so it's a D-VR7S ( model that dosen't exist on toshiba website ) and the grid with the output is separated in 2 and the RCA are for VHS ONLY. Also look the HDMI port on the left, it output only direct antena signal ( not usable for DVD or VHS ) and I don't know if the coax out play the same game.

Wait wait wait, why can't that HDMI port output any signal? How do you know this? How do you expect 1080p upconversion from your media without HDMI? @.@

I'm sorry I can't see the image, the downscaling is horrible, the text is all garbled.

but the co-ax idea should still work.

From Toshiba's site:
  • HDMI Output - No VHS output
  • Y/Pr/Pb Output DVD Only
  • S-Video Input 1front/1rear
  • S-Video Output DVD only
  • Audio/Video Input 1front/1rear
  • Audio/Video Output
  • L-R Audio Output
  • Coaxial Out
  • RF Input
  • RF Output with modulator
Toshiba Canada - home entertainment - dvd players - dvd recorders - DVR7

I'm assuming the HDMI should output up-scaled DVD.

But it seems coax/RF is the best way of doing this without buying any expensive upscalers. Honestly though, how many VHS tapes do you really watch this day and age? Why not obtain DVD copies of the media instead? Or if it's like home movies or something, get a capture card for your PC and convert them to DVDs.
