Looking into getting a new ~24" monitor

Looking at getting a 24" monitor (23" would probably be just as fine). There seems to be a bazillion different models in the $250 range which is about what I would like to spend so I'm looking for a little guidance to help narrow the list down.

It would be for my main monitor. I don't need any specialty connections, a single DVI is all I need. I will be doing some gaming on it but I'm not hardcore and will mostly be using CAD. I'm not a stickler for 'perfect' colour but I'm a little touchy about backlight bleedthrough, or I guess contrast ratio, since the monitor is usually used in a dim environment. Also unless it's gotten better over the last few years dynamic contrast drives me nuts with the monitor constantly changing and I usually turn it off.

Any tips on what brands to focus on or avoid, or any technologies/features that I should be looking into would be helpful. Even some recommendations would be nice!

I have been using a glossy screen HP 2207H with 16:10. Also, any recommendation with glossy screen?

Do you guys find a big difference between 16:10 and 16:9?

Look at dell. People always forget them but they have outstanding monitor ( not like their desktop ) Look every day or week at their sale. I got a 320$ 23 inch for 189 last week dman this screen rock.

If you can wait for some model to be on sale you can have a 23 with a IPS for around 250 + tilt, USB hub.

I have a couple of this -> Dell SP2309W, 23" Full HD Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor with Webcam . It has a tad higher resolution of 2048x1152 at 23", so having two windows side by side is not as awkward. Compared to my other monitor a BenQ G2420 HD, IMO this has much better color reproduction. The only thing that I don't like about it is the glossy screen finish which can be irritating sometimes. The BenQ has no such problem.
