Default Samsung 226 vs 245b

Hi everyone, I am just about to pull the trigger on a new LCD monitor. Right now I have a Samsung 915N and just find it too small
I have narrowed it down to:

Samsung 226BW which is a 2ms 3000:1 TN 1680 x 1050 panel
NCIX.com - Buy Samsung SyncMaster 226BW 22IN Widescreen LCD Monitor Black 1680X1050 3000:1 2MS VGA DVI-D HDCP - LS22MEWSFV/XAA In Canada.

and the
Samsung 245B which is a 5ms 3000:1 TN 1900x1200 panel
NCIX.com - Buy Samsung SyncMaster 245B 24IN Widescreen Black LCD Monitor 1920X1200 3000:1 5MS VGA DVI HAS - LS24HUBCBQ/XAA In Canada.

IS the extra 2 inches worth $180 more?
The 24 lcd will be a "S" panel. The 22...who knows!
I'm leaning towards the 24...but don't know if I can justify the extra 180 bucks. That and it is a 24inch TN 6 bit panel and not a true 8bit panel.

All comments GREATLY appreciated!

If you have the money go for the 24 inch, no matter what they say... size matters!

I'm not sure about gaming at that resolution with this card though.

If you're going to go bigger, I would spend another $100 or so and pick up a 24" VA model instead of the TN. $180 is hardly worth an extra 2" and a higher resolution when you can get those same features w/o the drawbacks of a TN panel for $280.

In this case, size also can play a negative role. As you may know, when you view an image from above or especially below a TN panel, the image gets significantly darker and the colours shift. While this is not a huge issue on smaller screens when you're sitting directly at the screen, it can become an issue on the larger screens as the angle between the center and top/bottom can be great enough to notice the flaws of a TN panel. Now, this will obviously vary depending on several things; how close you're sitting to the monitor, if you're sitting w/ your face dead center and perfectly perpendicular to the screen, etc. Also, as you mentioned, the higher resolution may also be detrimental to his gaming experience if his hardware is not up to the task.

Yeah, the 7900gtx while good will be brought to its knees PDQ...of course this just means that I will also have justification for a new 8800

Jmac the fact that it IS a TN panel is worrisome. Maybe I'll "make do" with the 22 and later get the 275T...for some 27 inch goodness.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I have the 245b and think it is friggin awesome, no lies!

It doesnt have that "darkening" depending on the angle anywhere near as bad as my 19" 931c I have downstairs, if you sit on the floor and look up at it from under the desk its kinda bad, but why would you right?

I have no regrets and I was deciding between the 2 you were.

I can't play many games with my gpu as it is, but I may just upgrade.

better to get a video card that can drive the monitor instead of skimping on the monitor to fit an older card...
