Single 5870 to run on a 2711?

I had the 3007 but ended up selling it ( to my regret ) so I'm back in the market.

Dell has a sale on both units in Canada, the 2711 for $899 and the 3007 for $999. I would like to buy the 3007 again but I'm not willing to buy another videocard in the process - so crossfire is a nono.

The question I have is if the ATI 5870 is capable of running smoothly on the 2711. If so then that will definitely be my choice. The $100 difference between the monitors is not much but adding another 5870 is ridiculous.

Does anyone know?

The U2711 only has 9% fewer pixels. I have my doubts that the graphical power required to drive both displays is going to differ all that much. I game @ 2560x1440 just fine, but I do use an HD5970. You might need to not play @ high detail all the time, but if you are ok w/ that I am sure the HD5870 will suffice.

Now I'm not sure what to do if that's the case. I suppose the question now is which should I purchase? Is the 2711 of better image quality or should I just go back to the 3007?

Well the U2711 does have slightly higher pixel density. My display does use the same panel as the U2711 (although LED backlit) and I will say that it does look fantastic.

all i can say to contribute to this is that i game at 3750x2048 and run most games at max without aa. running bc2 and justcause 2 at max with no aa i get arount 30-40fps. so it should do fine for you.
