I wouldn't call this a "gimmick" at all.....
Read the end of the article; it's not as clear-cut as you're making it out to be. The benefit of a 120Hz display depends on both the situation and the actual source, as well as how good the TV actually is at interpolating the frames. Like the article explained, some do it simply by repeating the frames more times, which won't significantly reduce motion blur. Whether or not a 120Hz display should be chosen depends on what will be watched on it as well as how much extra it will cost compared to a standard 60Hz TV, and the quality of the technology used. Based on my own experiences of looking at both 120Hz and 60Hz TVs, the only time you'll see a big difference is when watching sports, but for most TV shows or movies, it's barely or not noticeable.

And back n forth we go.....once again we agree to disagree..... ;)

Very noticeable watching "fast paced" movies / programs, not noticeable watching Jeopardy ;)

No..not worth it t go 240 Hz as the difference between 120 / 240 is so small vs the high cost of 240 Hz, but 120 Hz are now at or near the same price as 60 Hz......why spend close to the same for a old tech...

Biff....if you're like me and watch plenty of Hockey, Footbal etc....get a 120 Hz model. I don't watch em on my other 2 LCD's.....

Default And the winner is?

Sharp Aquos 46" 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV** (LC46E77UN) - Future Shop

Oh man, can't beat that combo right there. 1080p 46'' Plus 120Hz, just barely within budget (ahem, before taxes).

Edit:
DAM!!! 5 Hdmi inputs AND 1 Pc input? bloody heck... lol. That's pretty sweet IMO.

^^^ Yep that is a very good deal as well.!!...these same 46" 120 Hz sets would be around 1600 - 2K last year......I'm actually looking forward to seeing the LED's come down in price as well ;)

I love shopping for TV's as much as I like shopping for HW.....the ole lady thinks I'm nuts, we're at 7 TV's in our house, maybe I need an Intervention as in TV Hoarder (even an outdoor one on my covered patio).

zero isn't happy unless he is splitting hairs over something minuscule

120 Hz FTW. 60Hz is going the way of the rear projection TV

I can say that I've never met or heard from anyone who has bought an Aquos and regretted it. Including me.

Sorry for my silence !! I didn't receive the email notifications!

I finally went for the LN40B540..700$ at Costco! The Sharp is a really nice find, but honestly, my TV room is not big enough for a 46". I bought the HD receiver today from someone and I'm almost ready to go :)

I have to select with the GF what channels we want! The fun begins haha
