Default cross border lcd/led tv shopping

Greetings! I was wondering if anyone here from Canada has travelled across the border to purchase an lcd/led tv. Finding a duty rate for tv's is hard to find online through the CBSA website. If the tv is made in North America or Mexico, there is no duty. I know that the state sales tax for Buffalo or Niagara Falls, NY is about 8%. On top of that the gst and pst has to be paid for bringing it into Ontario. What I'm trying to figure out is what the duty/excise tax would be for tv's that don't fall under NAFTA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Isn't the warranty only valid within country of purchase? I know a fair amount of electronics that do that.

Cross border warranties are void but that isn't a concern at the moment. Most warranties that come with a tv are 1yr. I figure chances are pretty good that if I spend $1500 to $2000 on a quality brand, it should last at least that long.

TV's made outside of the NAFTA agreement carry a 5% duty rate.
So you would pay 5% duty and 13% HST for non-NAFTA made TV's.
You were correct, if the TV was made in USA, Mexico or Canada, you would only pay 13% HST.
Remember, you will pay Duty and Taxes on the full purchase price. (that includes the taxes paid in the USA)

I also wouldn't want to transport a TV that far. I may just have been over reacting but I had never driven more carefully in my life then when I brought my TV home from the store. And that was only a 15 min drive.

Duty on a TV is 3.5% from what I've read online. Plus HST and the state taxes, I was thinking of going across the border, though I think I may just buy a cheap TV instead now

Don't do it at all.

While prices maybe cheaper or selection maybe better as people said.. warranties are VOID

Just because you pay $2000 for something doesn't mean it is not going to have any problems.. or what if your not happy with the product?

Buy local an save headache and hassles.

I wouldnt bother either. The slight price difference doesnt make up for no warranty and import taxes / exchange.
