Thanks for the review. Guess I'll be waiting a while for LED TVs to mature a bit..

The mature ones are the local dimming LED models IMO. Samsung's 8500-series uses local dimming and I believe their A950 series from about 16 months ago was also local dimming.

Honestly though, if you are referring to the issues with uniform blacks, they pretty much reflect what has been seen since the inception of LCDs. It varies from one panel to the next in the same model series but I have seen clouding / flashlighting / bleed on some of the best TVs out there (XBR8, A850 etc.). It all comes down to luck of the draw IMO.

Well, I saw those videos of the OLED panels (albeit really small), and they're just damn stunning. I bought a cheap LG 32" 1080p panel when I moved to Edmonton and it's a pretty huge difference from an old CRT TV I had back at home but still not what I expected. (I'd still love to get my hands on a 55" though )

Does this have native 120 Hz signal input yet? I'd love to have an Nvidia 3D setup with one of these...

I Just took a peak over at Samsungs website because I am intersted in one of their new series 8 TVs, and on the Spec's page it says that they are LED Edge backlighting.

Great review!!

No. As far as I know, there aren't even any sources that support it on the OUTPUT.

8500 series only. ~$6200 CAD

Personally, I am looking to pick up the LG 55LH90 if I don't find an 8500-series at the price I want.

thanks, that makes better sense. That UN55B8500 was the model I saw on Display In Las Vegas last month, beautiful picture!! was only $3999 and their web site has it for $4500 , would be worth the trip with our dollar where it is right now.

how bout you make it next on your review list?

There is no ETA for Canadian availablity unfortunately so I am pretty sure Samsung Canada won't send me one just yet. I am however trying to get a hand on the new LN52B750.
