Default E8400 temps

Guys quick question, finally got my rig going. What is the best software to read the temps on my E8400. The bios fluctuates between 25-28C on idle on water. I had installed coretemp which started reading more like 35-38C on idle, I found it high since i'm using a dual rad for just cpu.

I think Realtemp is the best bet. The authour of the software seems to really know his stuff and provides support on the forum where you can find it.

Make sure you're using Coretemp 0.99.3, that one has the correct TJmax values for all the 45nm chips. Earlier versions read 5 or 10 degrees high.

And I'm running at 26 deg idle on my loop.

I think coretemp set to 100 TJmax as well. There was supposed to be some resolution to the sensor measurement info during the Intel party a couple of weeks ago, but it just muddied the waters more it seemed. There is a lot of good discussion in the link I provided, as well you will find a link near the end to the newest beta, 2.77.

Well if I set TjMax to 100, both programs read 34-38C on idle.
Hm.. Some what high for it.

Thats perfectly fine.

You need to take into consideration your ambient temps as well.

My temps at idle on my E8400 are about 40/30. I have a pretty consistent 10 degree split, though it gets closer as the CPU is under load. I have been running OCCT for almost 2 hours now and my temps are 52/46 clocked to 3.6 Ghz / 400 FSB voltage is Vid 1.25v and RAM at 2.1v.

Hmmmm.....

Mines an 8c split. I wonder how many other folks have the same issue. (Really thinking about lapping this puppy.... :) ).

I can't afford to replace it at this time if I mess up the lap :) I am content that the high is still well within useable levels.
