Default Brisbane questions

OK, I have been looking into the DFI LANParty UT NF590 SLI-M2R/G AM2 mobo and puttign a 3600+ Brisbane into it. If the bios is not already flashed to the latest, will the Brisbane post? I'd hate to get it and then have to buy another CPU to flash the bios.

I have never been happy with the performance of Intel in gaming. It has not lived up to what I got used to with my Opteron 165 and X1800 Crossfire rig. I am not saying the Opty rig was a faster system, it just had more gaming grunt.

Basically, I am going back to AMD just to see if I am crazy or if I am crazier. I may lose the ub3r 1337n3ss of the Conroe benchmark scores, but in day to day use I am sure I won't notice. Besides, I have a media center PC build around an E6600 so I will still have one to play with.

I have 2 systems picked out so far, since I only need a mobo and CPU,

1. AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ EE Dual Core Processor AM2 Windsor 2.4GHZ 512KBX2 65W 90NM Retail Box - DirectCanada
and
Gigabyte GA-M55SLI-S4 ATX AM2 NFORCE4 SLI DDR2 2PCI-E16 2PCI SATA2 RAID GBLAN 1394 Motherboard - DirectCanada

This combo is my budget combo since it is about $310 shipped. From what I can find, the NF4 chipset is better than anything except the NF590 for overclocking.

2. DFI LANParty UT NF590 SLI-M2R/G ATX AM2 Nforce 590 SLI DDR2 2PCI-E16 SATA RAID LAN 1394 Motherboard - DirectCanada
and
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ EE Dual Core Processor AM2 Windsor 2.0GHZ 512KBX2 65W 90NM Retail Box - DirectCanada

This combo is roughly $350 shipped and is a better mobo, but the lower multi scares me since the 590 boards are reported to run out of gas around 310HTT.

My absolute limit on spending is $400, and anything lower is better. $300 is ideal, but I cannot find much of anything interesting under that. Please, no Core 2 Duo rhetoric. I have them and know all about them. Advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just out of curiosity, why not wait till AMD comes out with thier new chips? from doing all my reasearch for my new computer, i leaned away from AMD because of performance issues compaired to the Intel (but i am not much of a gamer)

But from what i hear and read, the new AMD cpus are suspose to finnaly be able to compete with the intels, like they did back with the P4's vs XP

I have always been a AMD fan, but Intel won this round IMO

Intel won, but if you ask me, they won the benchmarking crown, not the gaming crown. I am deciding to go now because there is no time like the present and I am not one for waiting. I am not worried about beating the C2D, I just want something that will perform well and OC decently.

After extensive research online yesterday (about 5-6 hours), I am going with the DFI board and a 4800+ Brisbane. I also am going to DirectCanada for the parts. My first experience was not the best, BUT, their customer service was excellent and considering this is their support forum, I feel 100% confident everything will go smoothly this time. I am beyond excited for this new build.

Thats where i ordered all my parts (first time ordering computer parts online) I was a little nervous but their customer service was good, and the prices are awsome

Just sucks when you have to send somthing back to them it is at your cost

Small update. My decision to trust DirectCanada was very well placed. I ordered at 10AM and they shipped it today. I will have it tomorrow afternoon. Now I need a new pair of pants............

That's great that you can get that kind of performance at that price- Glad to hear you're happy with DC too.
